Weekly Newsletter For 11/18 - 11/24

The Chappell Hill VFD is always thankful for the community members who donate to our organization and assist the department in times of need. Our department relies on the continued support of the community, and we look forward to our bright future in serving the community!


  1. Washington County ESD 1 - The Chappell Hill VFD and the Meyersville VFD are starting the process once again to create an Emergency Service District based on our district lines. There is a lot of misinformation out there about ESD, and we welcome anyone who has questions about what it is to contact us.   2. Call Report:

    1. On 11/18/2024, around 10:51 PM, firefighters were dispatched to the area of 4300 Highway 290 East for a crash without entrapment. They arrived on the scene to find a vehicle versus a deer on the westbound side of the highway. The car had significant front-end damage, with airbag deployment and a coolant leak. Firefighters performed traffic control and fluid control. Law enforcement released units from the scene.

    2. On 11/19/2024, at 6:11 PM, the Chappell Hill VFD was contacted by a citizen about smoke in the areas of FM-1155 and FM-2447. Firefighters began investigating the area and found an illegal burn-off of Edna Mae Lane. They contacted dispatch to open a call and dispatch law enforcement to the area. Firefighters talked with the homeowner about the burn ban still being in place and extinguished the fire. Law enforcement arrived on the scene, and firefighters cleared the scene.

    3. On 11/20/2024, at 10:26 AM, firefighters from Chappell Hill VFD and Brenham FD were dispatched to a reported grass fire in the area of Gibbs Creek Road. They quickly found the scene and found a lawn mower had caught on fire and started the grass on fire. They quickly extinguished the grass fire and the lawnmower and performed an overhaul. Once the fire was out, firefighters cleared the scene and returned to service.

    4. On 11/20/2024, at 3:15 PM, firefighters were dispatched to a crash without entrapment in the 7800 block of Highway 290 East. Firefighters arrived on the scene and found a vehicle versus a deer. Firefighters performed traffic control until law enforcement arrived and returned to service.

    5. On 11/20/2024, at 11:16 PM, firefighters were dispatched to a crash without entrapment near 8581 Highway 290 East. Firefighters arrived on the scene and found a vehicle versus a deer. Firefighters performed traffic control of the incident until released by law enforcement.

    6. On 11/21/2024, at 9:11 AM, firefighters were dispatched to a reported fire investigation on Highway 290 East near Wonder Hill Road. While firefighters responded, they were notified that it was a controlled burn-off of Wonder Hill Road with machinery on site, ensuring the fire would not leave the pile. All units returned to service.

    7. On 11/21/2024, at 7:00 PM, the Chappell Hill VFD was dispatched as mutual aid for Meyersville VFD for a reported structure fire in the 3900 block of Old Navasota Road. While responding, Meyersville units arrived on the scene and found it to be a controlled burn. Chappell Hill units were canceled and returned to service.

    8. On 11/22/2024, at 5:45 AM, the Chappell Hill VFD was requested as mutual aid to a reported structure fire in the 900 Block of Allen Road. Firefighters arrived and assisted Meyersville VFD and Brenham FD with the extinguishment of the fire. They also salvaged and overhauled the structure to ensure there were no additional hot spots.

    9. On 11/22/2024, at 8:15 PM, firefighters were dispatched to a reported reckless driver on Highway 290 East near FM-2447. After additional information was provided, it was found that another vehicle had been driving recklessly and had crashed into another vehicle. Firefighters arrived on the scene and performed traffic control and fluid mitigation.

    10. On 11/23/2024, at 6:02 PM, firefighters were dispatched to a reported crash without entrapment in the area of the Phillips Vet Hospital and Highway 290 East. When they arrived, they found two vehicles in the center median against the cable barrier with moderate damage. They then performed traffic control for law enforcement until they were eventually released from the scene.

    11. On 11/24/2024, at 1:30 PM, Chappell Hill VFD was requested as mutual aid to a reported grass fire in the 16000 block of Sweed Road for a brush truck, ATV, and a tanker. Firefighters assisted with extinguishing the fire and hand-crew operations to ensure that the fire was out. Firefighters cleared the scene at 4:30 PM.

    12. On 11/24/2024, at 9:50 PM, firefighters were dispatched to a reported crash without entrapment in the 11000 block of Highway 290 East. When they arrived, they found a vehicle had struck a deer and been pulled off onto the shoulder. Firefighters performed traffic control until they were eventually released by law enforcement.
